Product Information

Handbuilt stoneware clay. Single fire, meaning the formed clay is air dried over a week or so, then glazed with a heavy coat of crystal glaze, then fired once to 2200F (between cone 5-6); and what happens, happens.

This stoneware clay is supposed to be fired at 1830F-1915F (cone 04-05).
But the crystal glaze needs to fire at 2200F to flow, in fact, could be fired
at 2300F. At the higher glazing temperature the stoneware clay tends to
distort. I like the effect. It does lean on one side, adds character.

Also, when the clay is bone dry and glaze is brushed on, the clay rejects the glaze and the glaze flakes out. Which is why there are some bare areas where there is no glaze.

Fine art decor. Will hold water for flowers, but that is not what this piece
is for (but that’s up to you).
9.5″ tall, 4lbs.
